Industrial history

In Roman mythology, the “genius loci” is the protective deity of a place or temple and, according to the Romans influenced people and locations alike. Kadans aims to revive this historical and creative spirit at At the Park.

The foundations of the world-leading cluster were laid, among others, by electrical engineer Wilhelm Lahmeyer’s patented inventions. Together with his partner and merchant Heinrich Garbe, he laid the foundation of the prosperous company Garbe, Lahmeyer & Co. in 1886. They later successfully utilized electricity to generate light and drive energy. By 1899, the company had grown into a large enterprise and later became a joint-stock company.

In recent decades, Aachen has developed into a central centre of gravity for ground-breaking innovations throughout Europe – especially in the field of battery electric vehicles, battery storage and battery technology, in which the city is one of the top locations in the world.
